Can I win insurance for an R-title (salvage title) vehicle?

I'm thinking of purchasing an R-title vehicle from a friend. This is someone I know and trust; and I've personally inspected the car thoroughly. He bought it from a broker specializing in R-title cars. The car be in a minor flood, but did not require much work according to the dealer. The saloon has no apparent rust, runs fine, etc.
The vehicle is worth under $5k, so I'd only want to take liability insurance on it, no comprehensive or collision. Am I going to have a hard time getting insurance on this vehicle? Our insurer is Nationwide; I've been a customer of theirs for 20 years, and have heaps vehicles insured with them. (I'm not sure if my history near the company will make a difference).
Any advice is appreciated.

My experience is you will enjoy to apply for the reconditioned salvage title, meaning it is inspected and safe for use on state roads, and after you can get insurance.-Not really sure what "R-Title" means but here surrounded by TX you get a "Salvage" title 1st and after repairs and pass inspection, you reapply for a clean Reconditioned Salvage title and then the vehicle is legal to operate on public roads. My insurance company have my truck insured with reconditioned salvage title.
Besides of what you only want as far as insurance coverage. That would be the one and only type of covergage you can get on a car that have a salvaged title on it.
The insurance company will not insure a salvaged saloon for full coverage just the legal requirements.
Good luck next to the salvaged car.
