Motor Insurance Quotation - Do you smoke?

Having rung round a few car insurance companies yesterday for a quote, I was surprised that they adjectives asked me whether or not I smoked. I'm used to this sort of question on health or time insurance, but CAR? I don't remember this ever happening before. Guess they up the premium a bit for smokers. Has anyone else found one and the same?
Answers:
same dangers as using a phone in the sports car i suppose as you have to remove one hand from the gearstick at some point and your not fully concentrating on the road ahead.

your probably tweice as likely to crash as a smoker surrounded by their view so the insurance for you would increase.
possibly they think lighting a smoke while driving is a distraction might cause an catastrophe any reason to screw us some more.
I do my car insurance on-line and I've other been asked.I saw in the rag the other day that if you have an twist of fate and it can be proved you were smoking,it will be very frozen to get motor insurance in the adjectives. It must be something to do with the law the Government are bringing out to not smoke bringing up the rear the wheel.
if you smoke whilst you are driving your concentration is not fully on the favour, therefore you will be deemed to be a sophisticated risk to the insurer. you could lie but if you have an catastrophe and you were smoking...................
tell stories to them
only when you put a match to me
it is seen as a possible distraction and therefore a risk. they don't ask over mobiles as it is prohibited to use non hands free. much in matching way they dint ask if you speed as that is illicit too. As all insurance quotes are measured directly to risks that they have hollow amounts of statistics to back up their premium assessments Source(s): i am an accident investigator
There have been rather alot of cars burst into flames because of cigarettes. You know when you throw your smoke out the window it sometimes comes back surrounded by?

Just like if you put a lift on a truck, your insurance go up.... they know that its now high-centered and is easier to tip over, or your intending to off-road it.

Anything to UP your insurance..... they look for it.
Car insurance is legal robbery anyway so nil they do surprises me
I have never hear that before.

As far as I know they can only ask interview relevant to your car(such as condition and claims) and your driving licence(such as points added and type).

They shouldn't really ask that. The only time your health comes into cross-question is when you are proven medically unfit to drive.
Its because the government are thinking in the order of making smoking whilst driving illegal soon. They probably want know if you smoke because they'll shortly be reviewing insurance policies to reflect the adapt in the law.
Insurance companies view smoking as a distraction while you're driving that could become incentive for a collision.
