(UK) Car insurance. Is it worth paying the lb20 to lb30 extra for Motor Legal Protection?
Is this actually worth paying for or is it just a fancy extra which sounds important and worth having but is if truth be told not?
Someone told me that if you are involved in an accident which be not your fault.. then you could pinch it any of the masses of solicitors who advertise on tv and who do no win/no excise insurance work to seek compensation/damages from the other party's insurers.

If you are insuring a cheap car for merely 3rd party fire and theft later it is definately worth it. If you are insuring fully comp then it is pointless having it.
I strongly recommend taking it out.I have it on my household insurance. If you own household insurance your better off taking it out with them it covers adjectives legal disputes.I never thought I would have to use it I be wrong had a dispute in 2003 appreciation to legal protection we got a solicator & the company finally cave in without going to court & we done up with over lb4,000 they had offered us lb100 have a good will Gesture. The companies that say no win no allowance get paid one means of access or the other. There is no such thing has getting something for free you other end up paying.
I had this cover a while ago when I have a no fault accident near a solicitor of a big city company. My insurance company would not fight it because they said his company were too ably respected and they knew they would lose the case. He did not take my respect as he lied about the accident and I have to pay for my own damage. I do not bother beside this cover any longer. The accident was right outside Buckingham Palace but the Queen be not at home so she couldn't be a witness.
Yes definately enjoy legal protection, and consider protecting no claims too if you have more than 3 years, you must procure insurance quotes from confused.com website, I saved myself lb400 this year!! 50% off!
Dont other go for the cheapest, get a fitting quality policy.
Motor legal protection is an insurance policy against you have to pay solicitors and other costs in an, unsuccesfull, attempt to claim put money on uninsured losses from another driver.
What are uninsured losses? These are losses that are not covered under your own insurance policy - typically the excess, and, if you don't have comprehensive cover, the ruin to the vehicle. In addition there would be a claim for time sour work, whiplash/ injuries. These losses have to be quantified and specialists compensated for to work them out. Policies may also cover prosecution defence cover to defend you against human being prosecuted and the better ones also include an accident management service so you can report any accident/ mugging to them and they will help you with the total claim.
If you make a claim through a no-win, no-fee solicitor and win then here will obviously be a fee! This could be a percentage of the award typically 25% - and 25% of lb10,000 is . . . You may also own to buy After The Event Insurance - which is a LOT more expensive than Before The Event.
However there are two rubs (and the FSA is investigating the sale of ULR insurance because of it):
1) Often the policy is sold and afterwards your advisor passes the case onto a local firm of solicitors because they will be salaried a referral fee.
2) Many of the 'insurance' policies are not actually underwritten at adjectives! Companies offer to do the work because they can claim costs from the third party and habitually hire-out cars
As the policy is one of insurance you must receive a key facts/ policy summary before you pinch it out and your insurers must split the premium i.e. tell you how much it costs including IPT
The Government have lately brought in registration of companies who 'ambulance chase' in an attempt to clear up the industry. An insurance broker that have a properly underwritten ULR scheme is exempt UNLESS they recommend firms to handle the claim.
Finally - enjoy a guess at the cost of the policy to the intermediary - you can always ask them how much commission they make! I would point out that if they did not earn money from the Dutch auction of ULR then they would have to increase their other fees. Personally I imagine that anything over lb20.00 at the moment is a bit overpriced unless there are excellent benefits included. Source(s): Insurance Broker 20 years
