How can I see a civilian OB-GYN if I enjoy military medical insurance?
Like I have posted here before, I am trying to achieve pregnant and since my husband is in the military, we have Tricare insurance. My position does not offer medical insurance so this is the only insurance we enjoy. Tricare will not approve for me to see a civilian OB-GYN since we have a military hospital where we live. The medical meticulousness is free at the military hospital. However I have noticed that anytime I want to see the doctor near, it is always someone different and I can rarely choose the doctor I see. I have always gotten the feeling that they do as little as called for for the patients...(they NEVER call me back, won't prescribe anything out of a definite price range, etc.) Then I heard someone who works at the hospital in reality say that they do only what is prerequisite since it is free. This never mattered for minor things (to cure a cold, etc.) But I am scared to passing to have a baby at that hospital! Does anyone here know what I can do? Thanks!

That's bizarre that they won't let you see a civilian doctor because there's a military hospital where you are. I work for civilian doctors and we go and get a bunch of people who live on base at West Point (which is 10 miles away - max.) beside Tricare. (And they have Keller hospital right on base.) There's also two VA hospitals inside 30 miles. I think they're lying to you.
IMO - call Tricare and ask for a supervisor if the first human being you get on the phone isn't helpful. Otherwise, send for a local OB-Gyn and ask if they take the plan. If they do accept it, they should own no problems getting paid. (We rarely do.)
Last resort - use your family's address - but watch out. If they see claims from a doctor who is 5 miles from the base and you're claiming to live 80 miles away, that can bite you. Source(s): I'm a medical biller
Unless you hold other health insurance, you can start saving money and be prepared to reward all the costs involved with have a baby at a civilian facility. Tricare isn't going to approve any payments for an off bottom physician if the needed services are offered at the military hospital.
OR, you can delay the pregnancy until you find a job which provides strength insurance benefits.
disappointingly you have to fill out a request for authorization of referral to an outside obgyn. if you enjoy a health problem your chances of getting outside strictness are better. if you are healthy i hate to read aloud this, but they may not let you. i have be going through the same problem for over a year here at ft bliss. it really sucks, people don't realize how discouraging the army medical system is. they think we have the best insurance, when we are really so predetermined in our treatment. you have to stir to tricare to file the referral request. it then go through the chain of command not tricare. it is up to the chain of command whether you can return with outside care. it sucks, but that is how it is. i need you luck. if they have already denied you, tricare normally won't move about over the chain of command.
i read your update, your husband will have to adjustment the status, and it would possibly make him lose his housing arrangement. talk to him roughly it and find out the rules, he can find out at DEERS and Tricare. If you are listed outside the military zone for Tricare you are free to see ANY doctor that accepts tricare, you may hold to get a referral from a family physician for this. My first station near my husband was Fort Campbell, KY we lived outside the service area and he commuted 3 hours to work every daytime. My first pregnancy was a breeze because i was competent to see civilian obgyn. I hope this helps.
