Any thinking in the order of how much profit the medical insurance industry made for 2008? Anybody?

MSNBC reported 809 billion!! Crazy or what!

Spread out over hundreds of companies.

It runs about 4% - nowhere NEAR what Coca Cola makes.

If this is your road of suggesting health insurance companies are CHARGING too much, you're wrong - because they aren't making their profits off of what they CHARGE fo insurance. This is a highly common misconception, brought about by ignorance of how the insurance industry works, fostered by the medium trying to turn the insurance companies into bad guys at the request of the democrats.

They pay out 99% of every premium dollar within claims. They subsidize administrative costs with the PROFITS they make, from investing the billions of dollars they are required to preserve, to pay future claims. THAT is where on earth they make their profits - from INVESTING their reserves. Take away their investment profits, and your insurance premiums will go UP, because later they ALSO have to pay administrative costs (rent, property taxes, income taxes, salary & benefits for employees, utilities, paper, etc) out of your premium dollars.
