Any recommendation for Medical Insurance for team on 457 visas?
I know that a company is responsible for medical care for all its overseas workers employed on a 457 visa. We hold several people on 457s- from various countries (UK, US, India, Philippines, Malaysia). I'm from the UK, so am covered below the reciprocal Medicare agreement with the NHS- but just for emergency. However, most of our guys aren't. Are there different levels of medical insurance for associates from countries with reciprocal agreements vs. those who have no reciprocal agreements, and if so what would you recommend? (I make out that standard healthcare providers- like HBF- charge more to people on 457s- are here specialist healthcare providers?). Sorry to ask so many questions around this, but I've been trying to find info. on it, and it's like bang my head against a brick wall!

I think you should walk with MBF, Medibank Private or one of the other major funds. Give Grand United a call upon too - I've seen them come up with some enormously good corporate deals and their cover is excellent.
The grounds that the premiums for 457 visa holders are much higher than for Australians is that they must cover a lot more. As you know, adjectives Australian citizens and PRs get free public hospital care and free or subsidised doctors and other services such as pathology, but unknown to plentiful people is the fact that Medicare also pays reasonably a substantial part of private hospital charges as well. Health cover for associates not eligible for Medicare must provide Medicare-type cover for all of those services.
Sorry, but I don't know the answer to the bit about premiums for ethnic group from the UK etc vs other countries. Sounds reasonable that they should be different, but the funds aren't prearranged for their reasonableness.
