Am I responsible for my mothers bills?

My mother passed away 2 months ago and I am starting to get bills sent to my home for her doctors while she was within the hospital. She had insurance, so some parts of the bills were covered, but not adjectives was covered. She passed away leaving not a penny. No time insurance, no estate, no will, nothing. I can't afford to pay her bills at adjectives, and the doctors office keeps calling maxim they will take legal dealing against me.
Answers:
no you are not.
in a path you are since you are family and is considered next of kin... they can walk to court though
No, if she passed away . its not your problem
wtf that aint balanced u shuldnt b liable for ur mum
Laws Differ state to state if you haven't call the lawyer yet go and get your lazy *** up now. You yourself may enjoy to declare bankrucpty then again you conceivably allowed to differ it.

Then again you could just be the victim of a rabid hospital
I don't deduce you are obligated to pay for her bills. I think that the children are supposed to wage the funeral bill but other then that, I don't think anyone besides her spouse is supposed to be responsible for her bills.
You aren't responsible for her bills. You may have been appointed her personal representative of her estate. In that dimensions, you may be getting collection letters. Her estate may need to be probated, surrounded by which case, the attorney will file concentration to creditors. They will publish it in the paper so that the doctors and public will hold been given notice. If no undertaking is taken within a certain length of time, I think they are out of luck. Did you sign anything while she was surrounded by the hospital? You might need to talk to an attorney. Source(s): Have be personal representative for grandmother.
My gut say no, only her husband would, if he were alive. But do this: take out the phone book and call Law Offices to see if they can give you free "simple" suggestion over the phone.Do it right away before the hosp. and dr's really do get permitted help. Make it as simple to answer as you can and they may help you for free over the phone. No paperwork - lately arm you with the legal status you can use when the bill ancestors bug you.
I dont know... i guess u should ask a lawyer or something. I just know my uncle passed away and his familial had to pay his bills... his brother have some money so he did.
Sorry for your loss.

If your mother died without a will, she is considered to hold died "intestate" and that means an executor needs to be assigned and the estate go into probate. This is necessary because all the bills that are still due want to be paid by the estate, or the estate has to be declared insolvent and the bills unpayable.

If you want to do research on your own, do an internet force out on "intestate" and "your state" to see specific laws, and next steps.
If you are the executor of her estate you could be liable for some debts. You need to see a advocate.
Tell the doctors department, that if they call you again, you will file harrassment charges against them. As far as i know, simply a spouse can be held responsible. You might seek advice from your local Legal Aid Society. Good luck, and im sorry to hear nearly your Mother.
You stipulation to see a lawyer. Anyone can call you on the phone and voice they will sue you if you don't pay a bill. That doesn't mean they aren't simply 'blowing smoke'!
The lawyer will ask you if you signed anything saying you be responsible for your mother's bills - this might have been something they give you to sign when she went in the hospital. The attorney will charge you for his time and lawyers aren't cheap but at the very tiniest, he will write a letter demanding proof from the doctors that they are reasonable surrounded by their expectations that you pay.
Your mother may have have an estate and you don't know it. Everyone has an estate in the sense that they own something. But if you die intestate, nearby is no way for anyone to make claims to what be left behind.
I'm sorry your mother died. It's doubly intricate to be grieving and be harassed.
A talk near a good lawyer will do much to put your mind at take the edge off. Look for recommendations from friends and see a lawyer you is particularly strong in estate law (they adjectives say they know all kind of law but they have strengths and weaknesses).

Get a lawyer, unless you co-signed with her, or she put you down somewhere to take-home pay for her bills, I don't think you are obligated to pay them. But I'd get hold of a consultation with a lawyer and find out.
The bills fall to her estate, if she have no estate no money. I would take legal guidance though as if you are named in some agency you could have problems.
Get a lawyer. In most cases, the estate is responsible for the bills. But if the estate is broke, I don't know. Maybe your mother will have to contend bankruptcy even though she is dead.
Talk to your lawyer. If you are the next of kin, you will probably enjoy to settle your mother's debts
You owe nothing. Tell them that if they don't stop YOU will sue them for harrassment.
Not legally. Ethically, perhaps, but not officially. Source(s): Me
You are not responsible. Don't tolerate any one tell you otherwise.
well if you have siblings split it up between them and you.
GET A LAWYER
you are definitley going to need one, whoever is billing you is going to try and milk away all of your money. If you can win some sort of record going and record adjectives of the bills your mother had been paying and desires to still pay.
I am sure some collectors are aware of her death and if the bills are within her name.
Try claiming that she is deciesed if that doesn't work, you definitley need to hire a attorney just so you can at least seize some sort of fnancial advice. I am so sorry about her bereavment and i longing you the best of luck
always
You obligation to ask an attorney.
