As a home gala planner, must I convey liability insurance for the entertainment and entertainer?
I am putting together a children's full service birthday party service. I plan to hire entertainers approaching clowns and magicians to go to the party location. In this defence, who carries the liability? Is it up to the independent entertainer to carry their own insurance, or am I liable as the jamboree service company?
Answers:
You are the general contractor, so if your subcontractors (entertainers) do NOT carry liability, you're on the hook for it.
You really need an insurance agent for this one.
It's probably a good thing to own just incase things happen that you could find sued for. You can required any independent entertainers that contract with you also own their own liability insurance. If you are the one that made the original contract, you need to be capable of cover all of the events involved.
If you hire the clowns from a company they are probably insured. It is a good idea that you win some sort of personal umbrella policy which covers liability for you.
Ideally both party should carry their own liability insurance. Either of you can be sued.
Ideally the entertainers not lone carry their own liability insurance, but will agree to list you as a name insured on their policy, and will agree to hold you harmless for any liability caused by them.
Your insurance agent can explain this further. Source(s): I am surrounded by the insurance business.
