How can a handyman attain liability insurance if he get injured?

My handyman can replace my roof. I would love for him to do it, but I'm concern if he get hurt. How can he get his own liability insurance?
Answers:
You should never allow a contractor to touch your property
minus evidence of proper insurance. That policy should
provide a minimum of $1,000,000 of liability coverage. They
should also have their own workers compensation, which varies from state to state. Some states require workers
compensation on your homeowners policy for the handyman/ incidential worker. Check your policy.
He desires workmans comp for that.
I am sure he is a nice guy, but I would not permit him replace my roof. Hire someone with experience and proper insurance.

Also, by hiring him to replace your roof your are basically taking on him as an hand. It is called owner-contracting. Stay away from this at all costs.
Now you are opening a can of worms you might not like...
Most states require you to be a licensed business to buy insurance for a job....Plus you may be required to have a receipt issued by your local inspections dept...Most states allow you to work on your own house...But if someone else does it they must be a licensed contractor in order to verbs a permit...Beware if you have to verbs a permit then you will be required to hold and inspection prior to the inspector signing off...But the liability insurance doesn't cover him getting hurt just your property if he screw up...Workman's comp covers when you get hurt and unfortunately you can not comp yourself....simply like you cant have severance insurance on yourself...........cant lay yourself off....... Good luck but you are in a stop 22 situation... Source(s): Sub-contractor in Florida ( toughest building codes in U.S.)
our contractors licence are honored in all 50 states because we excede everyone elses minimum building codes....
They might be able to get bonded and insured that passageway ..
