How much does "extra" liability insurance cost?

Our lease states we have to carry a liability collection (300k personal and 300k physical, at our expense. This is also in addition to the tenant insurance and our renter's insurance. The agent says it's standard but this is the first I have see it.

1. Why is this necessary?
2. How much does it cost?
Answers:
There's no such thing as "extra" liabililty. EXCESS liability, comes contained by $1,000,000 bits - so you can't buy $300K of excess liability.

Your landlord's insurance covers your landlord. Your renters insurance covers you. Likely, your renters insurance IS the liability "package" that they are talking in the order of, assuming that you're renting the place you live, and have an HO4 renters policy.
Call your agent and ask for an umbrella policy. Should run around 200 for the year and that is 1 million coverage
