Car insurance UK, am i individual stupid?
i have just renewed sports car insurance over the phone, they asked if there had be any changes, i said i was made redundant a few weeks ago, they seem a bit cross, said i should have told them straight away, asked me for an extra lb26 of which lb25 is administration allowance (!)
i guess my question is why does being temporarily out of work make me a greater risk in language of car insurance? as soon as i get another brief i'm going to have to contact them again and get the documents changed again ?!?!
Phone them hindmost and ask for the admin fee to be waived. When I reinsured my vehicle after an accident they tried to charge me lb40 admin fee for nil. I said no, I was put on hold and then after a few mins they fixed to waive the charge. However occupation is taken into account on car insurance and mortal unemployed as considered a higher risk categgory even though you are probable to be doing lower mileage. I would ask them to waive the fee. If they refuse, find another insurer.
Your occupation is something which you must declare when you take out the cover and as it is a devolution to that you have to tell them if it does modify. This applies to all material and relavent facts that an insurer would want to know to total the premium.
During the time they did not know your insurance was invalid and they could have get out of a claim easily.
You are not temporarily or permanently out of work and claiming benefit, just unemployed.
To be brutally honest and to answer your press, yes you are being stupid. Not informing or telling lies to an insurer is never a righteous idea and can often backfire on your wallet.
I would have taken that to be a sign of changes in sports car car and convictions earning points. I don't dream up you are being stupid I do think you are individual ripped off. It's possibly too late to call off the insurance (although if you act quickly you may know how to do so without penalty) and you will need to set up another insurance quote first but I expect I would change my company on the next renewal but within any event complain to the company not on the 'phone but in writing with a copy to the financial editor of a rag
"> It,s because we live surrounded by rip off Britain.Easy money. They know that most people will pay envelope because they don't want the hassle of changing insurance companies especially when you need proof of your no claims bonus. As they wont convey you that quickly. The only exoneration is that they can say as you aren't working, then you own more time to be driving around in the car and are thus a greater risk, although i.e. providing that you can afford to do that
