The laws of each state may differ, but usually you must be a resident of a state to register and insure an automobile in attendance. The government requires a specific address .

I understand that this is usually cheaper than a 3 month rental(hire), but this may not work. It only just depends on the state laws where you intend to buy the motor.
Depends on what the State laws are where your going.
The registration process and the certainty your not residents could place your plan in jeopardy. Not to mention finding someone who would sell you a reasonably licensed vehicle with an out of state ID. That would put them at serious risk of being reasonably responsible for your actions. When you went to get rid of it you would have to be sure someone actually transfers it out of your entitle, which they have 15 - 18 days to do so.

Your best off finding a cheap motor rental place, like rent a dent. Or take public transportation most the time and rent when needed.
