Why did my sports car insurance rate drop up?
I have been an added driver to my boyfriend's insurance. I be paying $30 a month. When we renewed it after 6 months, we were informed that my rate doubled, now $60 a month. I haven't gotten any tickets within that time frame and the insurer couldn't tell us why my rate had increased (My boyfriend's rate truly decreased). The insurance agent just said "it happens sometimes".
I benign of want to know more of an answer than that. Has anybody had this problem before?? What could it be? I know for sure I haven't have a single ticket while I was on his insurance.

Did you change anything else on the policy, similar to taking a car off or something? I expect the reason is the company had a rate increase but it does nouns strange that your boyfriend's part went down and yours didn't. Are you sure he isn't asking for more because he requests you to pay for part of his? Just a thought.
Insurance companies group people into classes and assign risk factors and rates to respectively class. As the others have indicated it's possible something in your history changed and you be moved into another class. It's also possible that other people in your assigned class have a higher incidence of accidents within the last year or two and the insurance company increased the rate for your entire class.
About all you can do is grasp quotes from other companies. Your individual history or your class might qualify for a lower rate with another company.

I'm guessing that you are shacked up near your boyfriend. If I am right, that is the reason. Insurance companies (and society) look unfavorably on shack job. Why? Because it shows irresponsibility and carelessness. That increases risk for insurance companies, hence higher rates.
