Will my sports car insurance rates move about up, hit and run happenstance?

I was parked out of my girlfriends house and apparently during my visit someone have hit my car that was parked on the side of the road. The other saloon just nicked my bumper (no spoil to fender) but hit it hard enough to totally slash the bumper off the driver side and the front of the car and be left dangling on the passenger side. There were also scratch on the top of my driver side mirror, and the mirror itself popped out and was shattered.

Basically my question is...if I claim it, will my rates jump up? I believe I am insured under my parent's names and not my own.

I have one accident that was my criticize about 2 years ago.
Answers:
Well, on the one foot, the accident itself isn't surchargable, so it shouldn't generate a "surcharge" for either you or your parents.

On the other foot, depending on what STATE you are in, this is still a claim on your policy, and it's possible that your insurance company can "downgrade" the rating tier, thus giving overall higher rates to the policy.

It's kinda sneaky, but it happen.

You'll have to ask your agent to be sure, what exactly is done in your state. Source(s): agent, 21+ years
no it should not make your rates go up, however, who ever call and reports it to the insurance company will have it held against them if they try to change insurance companies. I found this out after i reported frozen rain damage to 2 of my cars, then subsequently i got divorced. i was the one who call the damage in so when i tried to make over companies to get away from where my x have insurance they told me that those 2 claims counted against me as seperate claims also so they would have to charge me higher insurance for 2 yrs until they go off of my record, but if i have stayed with the same insurance as my x it would not bother me, and it did zilch to him because i was the one who handled adjectives the finances so i was the one left to report them. so tolerate your spouse call in the claims citizens and dont make them any wiser to why you want them to do it. Oh yeah by the way they held his accident against me also because they happened when we were married and underneath the same policy, so i really got hosed
It depends on the company.

The insurance companies have done a concrete good job bribing politicians, so they hold things pretty much their way. Better than 50% chance they will angle your rates.
It depends on where you are, but surrounded by most countries the insurance companies will reduce your no-claim discount, causing your renewal premium to increase (and which will clearly own a knock-on effect in subsequent years).

Depending on the size of the claim, they may also increase the premium at renewal.

Do remember, so far as fault is concerned, it is a 'no-claim' bonus, and not a 'no-BLAME bonus'.

Best of luck!
When the adjuster comes to look at your motor they can tell who was at blame most of the time. If you have a good insurance company they will become conscious because these things happen all the time. Your insurance should no budge up however you will have to pay the deductible to obtain your car fixed since you have not a soul else to claim at fault. Source(s): Previous experience
