Which make/model do insurance co. hand over the best rates?

I've heard that insurance co. use a number rating for different vehicle types and brands in their risk formula, besides the drivers age, location and credit evaluation. So which brands do they think are the safest?
Answers:
Well, THAT is going to vary by state, too!! But across the world the Volvos are pretty low symbol, as are the Dodge Caravans.

It's not ONLY about safest/collision accidents, it's ALSO around theft rates - so a super safe coup¨¦, with a high aggravated burglary rate, is going to cost more. OR, ANY car, in a HIGH THEFT AREA. Source(s): agent, 21+ years
I used to work for an auto insurance co and most of it is base on cost of the vehicle b/c that's what they would have to pay if at hand was a loss. The fancier the trim model, the more expensive it is to insure b/c the more expensive it is to replace. There were a couple cars resembling the Isuzu Rodeo that were considered dangerous so they would be more expensive too, but mostly it's based on cost of the vehicle.
It's not just cost and safekeeping. It's also driver demographics and its popularity with thieves. Many cars that are hugely safe, such as Honda Accords and Toyota Camrys, are also very illustrious on the theft list, so their rates are greater. Look for a car that is adjectives as dirt and mainly appeals to old society. The Ford Crown Victoria is a good example. Most minivans also have cheap insurance rates, beside the Honda Odyssey being a little high than most due to theft rates. Basically if it is sporty or fun or looks like something someone underneath 40 with no kids would want to drive, rates will be higher. The in front of end of the spectrum would be something like a Mustang GT convertible or a Corvette.
