Doesn't really matter give or take a few the number of doors - I have a 3 door that has with the sole purpose 4 seats. It totally depends on the number of seat belts you own.
Count them! Yeah your average 3 door hatch has 5 places, but some 3 door cars only have two seating in the rear resembling a coupe, and some 3 door cars don't have ANY seats contained by the back like a Smart.
Like the others read aloud - count the seat belts :)
