Can an insurance company fix a vehicle short contacting me so i can receive a quote first?

i had a car luck a couple of months ago, my car was written rotten and the other driver had a few minor scratches on his vehicle, after we have traded information, i had tried contacting the guy but he never answered his phone. me, thinkin he probably forgot about it. so when a couple of months following his insurance company contacted me saying that they want $2340 to pay for the coup¨¦. I called them up saying if I can help yourself to the car to my panel beater first so I can get a quote from him. they said no, we hold already fixed the vehicle. BUT THEY CANT DO THAT WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE RIGHT? I KNOW THEY CANT. they were supposed to contact me first and tell me what be going on. Please let me know what do i have to do?
Answers:
No. You are allowed 3 quotes by regulation
in ANY State.
It isn't your vehicle, you can't take it anywhere. He carries insurance to protect himself from have his car "repaired" by a back-yard panel beater.
What was wrong near your insurance company?

By the way, if your car be written off, it sounds like you are getting a definite bargain with with the sole purpose $2340 damage to his car.
Yes they can do that beside out your knowledge.

The other driver and his insurance company have no responsibility to let you take the vehicle (one you don't own) to the shop of your choice. Nor do they have any obligation to preserve you informed of what they were doing.

Just like the other guy have no say in how or whom you chose to repair your motor.

Rather, the car gets repaired by the shop of the sports car owners choice.

Here's what happened - they guy filed a claim lower than his collision coverage. His company paid to repair the car lower than his own policy. They are now pursuing you - since you were at eccentricity for the accident - for re-payment. The process is called subrogation.

Yes, they can do it.
No, they don't involve your permission or approval of the repairs.

If you had insurance at the time of the happenstance -notify your company. They will handle the subrogation claim under your liability coverage.

If you did not hold insurance at the time of the accident, then call upon the other company and set up a payment plan with them. They will set up a monthly settlement plan - interest free. If you ignore them - they can turn you over to collections, sue you and/or get your drivers license revoked.

Edit: If his sports car was hit in the flipside -it is possible for there to be damage that you did not see. Often, the break to a rear impact will not be fully seen until the backside bumper is removed.

The bumper cover was scratched. As long as those did not puncture - that can be repaired and painted. In US - $350-500 just do that.

But the impact railing is behind the cover and usually can't be seen until the cover is removed. The railing can be bent and the cover appear to be only scratched. That's because the cover is flexible and the impact bar is not. If the impact railing was damaged - it have to be replaced. Usually the bumper brackets are replaced as well.

The bumper brackets bolt the impact bar into the frame of the coup¨¦.

In a rear end collision - the frame banister ends can be bent down just a bit. In the US we give 2 hours set up and a couple hours verbs time to bring the frame rail ends up.

The rear body panel is also inept to be seen in most cars - until parts are taken past its sell-by date. The rear body panel is the area of the trunk where on earth the deck lid shuts. It usually has trim panels etc. that keep hold of it from being seen until parts are removed. It is possible for the flipside body panel to be damaged and you may not realize it until the car is contained by the shop.

In a rear impact - the floor pan can also be worn out. Did you get under the sports car at the accident scene and inspect the rear floor tub? Most people don't.

Both the rear body panel and floor vessel can be repaired.

If the bulk of the estimate is labor - not parts, then that may be the case. There be damage, but most of the damaged parts could be repaired and did not involve to be replaced.

In my area, we pay $42.00 per hour for body repair. It's much more expensive for power-driven repairs.
My point here -is that it is very possible that the car have more damage than you realized. That the desecrate may have appeared to be only scratch but could actually be more - once you get it surrounded by the shop and tear it down.

Your car be a total loss? I take it, it had bring down to the front bumper, grill, hood. Possible radiator, radiator support? If the damage to your car is that extensive - next odds are, the car you hit have more than just scratches.

No one hear can communicate you if the repair estimate is valid or not. We've not seen either saloon nor the estimate. I am not saying these parts of his car be damaged - only that they can be and it may appear to you to freshly be scratches.

Granted, I'm an adjuster in the US.

However, I expect that Australia have subrogation or a similar concept. It's a pretty common idea.

Since you are not thrilled with the answers provided here - perhaps you should invest contained by speaking with an attorney in your nouns. Source(s): Insurance Adjuster- US
