Does anyone use Life Lock or any other identity burglary insurance company?

My husband is convinced that we need to get this. It costs $110 per entity per year, and from what I gather, all they do is contact Experian, Transunion and Equifax and bring up to date them that you suspect you might be at risk for identity theft. They provide these companies with 2 phone numbers provided by you. Then if something happen & your identity gets stolen, it's your responsibility to call Lifelock & explain to them. If you don't, they won't go to bat for you. If you do everything they tell you to do, they will payment for the legal fees to get your credit straightened out, up to $1,000,000, but they don't reimburse any lost money.

Is my reading correct? If not, what am I missing?

Wouldn't it be better to contact the 3 credit companies and put a security freeze on our credit? Yes, it's a hassle if we actually want credit, but next no one can get credit within our name, period. No hassle with laywers and ID theft insurance, because not a soul can get through to the credit companies.

ID break-in insurance companies are pretty much a waste of money. It is much cheaper to freeze your credit. Why drag a third party into the picture.

By the route, I heard that the Lifelock guy with his physical social security number on the side of that truck, bragging how safe he is from ID robbery, has his social security number used for a payday loan. So much for Lifelock!
funny you mentioned Lifelock. This company is currently under fire next to consumer complaints due to the credit bureaus not stopping thief's from stealing their identity. The creator of Lifelock actually has commercials and ad where he shows his real ssn and baptize. He also admitted in the article that he have had approx. 52 people dig up a drivers license in his name. I wouldn't want to accord with that. Keep your money and get the shelter freeze b/c as long as you keep the number active you provide you can apply for credit and after be contacted immediately for verification.
The guy who advertises the company had his identity stolen.
That should put in the picture you everything you need to know.
I agree....adjectives LifeLock does is put a freeze on your credit report...you can do this yourself....the only thing I would influence is a plus is that they have a one million dollar guarantee....I was below the impression that if they are to monitor it for you not you monitor then send for them if something happens LOL!

Don't do it...tell your hubby NO out of the give somebody the third degree!!
