Can someone enlighten me how tough it is for a nurse to work for an insurance company?

What I would like to know is: Is it very thorny to work for the insurance companies that have a nurse on call for their 24 hour nurse vein. I have alot of nursing experience and would like to find something within this line of work. Any information on this will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know of any insurance companies that do this, except workers comp case managers - but most medical practices own a 24 hour nursing line. Source(s): agent, 21+ years
You need to explore other option in the insurance companies such as those that do medical review (review medical records), Associate health nurse (basically a nurse for associates that become sick,) and also Case direction (assists hospitals and doctors with getting approval for extuenating circumstances for patients ) Source(s): I have worked within insurance for 8 years.

Nurses are a big plus in the workers compensation pen. They are in such high constraint. Plus you don't have to work 12 hour shifts or on call.

You could try individual a field base suitcase nurse manager (FBCM) they are normally around work comp claimant's who are surrounded by serious injury and can get all the information to the adjuster faster and recount the adjuster what is best.

You could be a nurse case manager (NCM) they as a rule call the injured workers that are hurt and keep the adjuster updated on respectively case monthly.

You can also be a company contact. I've talked to lots former nurses who now are part of big companies. They are contained by charge of 100's of employees and keep contact near adjuster and have authority over alot of things that HR can't get involved unless they plan on firing. Your working for a big company but you'll over see alot of states depending on the company.

Try contacting some of these companies that I've done business. At most minuscule you can get started at exploring the option.
Corvel, Concentra, Coventry, these are some I know sour the top of my head.

Good luck Source(s): Work Comp adjuster
Contact the Employment Dept of insurance companies. These jobs usually do not pay as much as floor nursing but give less stress and better working conditions, so they are often hight sought after by elder experienced nurses.
actually, nurses are in constraint (as well as doctors) at insurance companies.. at my job, we use them surrounded by underwriting, a 24 hour nurse line, pre authorizations, medical government, appeals, tons of things.
