Double house insurance enquiry??

Having moved house in March 2007 i have lately found out that having initially moved my house insurance over to the new property i am still paying insurance on the older property.
Swinton have told me that the insurer will claim that the property will still have be covered during the 6 month period and that i will not be able to capture reembursed for any monies i have paid.
Is this right, surely i am not to blame and that it be swintons job to cancel the outdated cover once the change of address was notify.

If you sold your prior residence, all you need to do is show the proof of the mart (i.e. a copy of your settlement statement) and sign a request to cancel the policy effective the date of Dutch auction and your agent or insurance company will cancel the policy back to the date of mart and refund any unearned premium to you. Since it is over 30 days the request to cancel will enjoy to be processed manually so it will probably take about 3 weeks but it will not be a problem.

i don't know where you live, but i have never hear of transfering a homeowners policy from one property to another unless it is a renters policy. if you own the homes a new policy would have to be written on the foreign house and the old policy cancelled. if it is a renters policy and you haven't had a loss, lately get them to move it and make sure its done contained by writing this time so you have the proof and its not a big deal. i deliberate i personally would be looking for a new agent or company if this happen to me. Techically, they are probably within their rights to do this - a change of address and insuring a unsullied property doesn't necessarily mean that you no longer own the old property. It depends on the details of your policy (check to see if it is compatible near buy-to-let) - but it is entirely plausible you have changed billing addresses and own several properties...

However, if it is a above-board mistake on somoenes part (even yours) I would be amazed if they didn't do some sort of reimbursement. Speak to manager and complain politely, all the same firmly - make it perfectly clear you will move to another insurer if this isn't rectify (indeed, move to another insurer if this isn't recitified).
You can only try,but you should have checked as all right. I don't think you have much hope. Always check you DD and SO monthly. When mistakes crop up, it costs money
I work for a insurance company. Many times a customer does a swing of address and still wants to keep their mature policy enforce. If I were you I would get a communication from my lawyer showing the date that I closed the sale of my aged home. Then send that to the insurance company asking them to backdate your cancellation. When you own proved that you had no need for the insurance, they will bestow you a prorated refund. As long as your old policy be not with in a confident amount of time to it's next renewal( usually 30 - 90 days). You are entitled to a refund, but you do enjoy to document it.
If they importance their customers, they will backdate the charges.
I have had closely of experience of home insurance, been selling it for over 10 years and most places will refund if you provide proof of dual insurance.
It is your job to cancel the hoary insurance or to ensure that someone else does it on your behalf. However I would be very surprised if you could not get a compensation if you make a polite and reasonable overnight case for reimbursement.
