Why doesn't the House own a bill that includes tort reshuffle & competition across states for Insurance Co.?
We all know that competition is the best way to cut costs and enjoy companies always innovating and coming with ways to better their products.
Now the house bill doesn't contain a single Tort reshuffle; which would drive down the cost of insuring Doctors, nor does it even allow for competition across state line which could really cut costs in partly for many families, including myself.
I am no Republican or Democrat, I am an independent concerned citizen. So what do you politically minded relations think?
Answers:
Trial lawyers own convinced Democrats that tort reform wont help.
And the Liberals are shills for them immediately and claim only 1% of medical costs are from lawsuits.
Ask any Dr. how much they pay in malpractice insurance, especially OB-GYN's.
Ask any Hospital-Nursing Home admin how much they take-home pay in malpractice insurance and how many times they've be sued.
In Florida the medical lawsuits are not only rampant, but so plentiful, few fight them simply because of the pure volume. Most are base on little to nothing...but it's losing battle.
Yes, Tort redeployment is a massive, MASSIVE aspect of fixing our HC problems.
Two reasons on Tort Reform:
1. The Dems enjoy strong lobbying ties to the Trial Lawyers.
2. There is no correlation between court payouts and insurance premiums (insurance premiums are increasing much faster and court settlements are decreasing slightly) as a whole. Lawsuit payments are a small percentage of the interest that insurance companies collect form the doctors.
So even if tort reform did lower costs for consumers (It won't) dems wouldn't do it because of their legal representative buddies. Source(s): http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/09/opinio…

I agree that tort reform is needed as one way to control costs. the article that most people don't see about cross state competition is that it is state controlled. Each state i hold ever live in had some form of board or department that controlled any and adjectives insurance sold or used in that state.
The Dems get 90% of the contributions that the trial Lawyers shell out.
Why take a arbitrariness and piss them off. Like it or not elections have consequences and they OWN adjectives aspects of the Govt The Republicans can't even slow them down if they want to push something through. The only reason Obama Care hasn't passed even so is because the Dem's are currently having a meltdown within their own celebration.
