My parents moved to FL 4 years ago and have a similar problem. They thought they could compare/contrast different policies, and it turns out because it is FL (and only for that reason), the only insurer they could capture to give them a policy was Nationwide (because of their long possession relationship the 30 years prior to that).

The only thing moved out for you to do is do the state-run insurance Citizens.
You didn't vote anything about why you're being denied--is it your location, the type you're trying to attain, or is there a general moratorium on current insurance policies in the state?
You can go to the Florida "FAIR" plan for your basic homeowners, after Citizen's Insurance for the wind coverage, and the flood through National Flood Insurance Plan.

As you know, insurance in Florida is NOT going to be cheap; these companies are the carrier of last resort (well, except for Flood, you only EVER find flood coverage through NFIP) but if you've tried several independent agents and they are adjectives turning you down, you can get the coverage - all you enjoy to do is cough up the money, and fill out the application. If your house has "issues", similar to unrepaired damage, you need to pinch care of that right away; they WILL inspect within the first 30 days.

For people who can not purchase insurance on near home for what ever reason the State has an insurance company set up. You will reward more, not have the best of coverage however, some insurance is better then none. Contact Florida insurance Department
