Thinking going on for edification music curriculum contained by the student's home. Do I inevitability insurance? Anything I should consider?

Answers: 1. Male teacher beside female student - someone from the home should be present. (and vice versa). Sounds unusual but I have see and heard of some horrible things that may or may not have be accurate. It's best to protect yourself at all times.
2. Keep a time clock in front of you and monitor start and running out time.
3, Decide how you want to be paid (cash, check, etc.)
4. Make sure that you have some form of written 'agreement' beside student, parent (if under age) and yourself.

When I taught music privately - I be always firm that if the student did not know the lesson - I would not continue the lesson for the time, but required payment. Student wastes their time if they are not prepared..
*Yes - get some sort of insurance. Join a local music teacher union - there are TONS adjectives over the states, if you're in the US. You can join more than one. If in that is not a music teachers union, amalgamate the state teachers union. I'm a music professor and a member of both the state union and a music teacher's alliance. Most music teacher's unions have website and you can access their message boards to ask lend a hand of other experienced teachers in your nouns.

*Make sure someone else is home - a parent/guardian preferably, but at least make sure they're a legally recognized adult. If you cannot ensure an adult man home, ask the parent to sign off on a permission slip to video transcript the lesson and don't step off-screen. This is not only beneficial to you, but can be beneficial to the student - you can play back their reading and watch posture/position as well!

*Draw up a syllabus of your expectations and stipend requirements to have the parents sign. That way you can, as another party said, set practice standards - if they don't practice for the lesson, there will be no lesson, but you still get remunerated.

*If you have to adjust their fingers or posture, make sure to ask the student first up to that time you touch them (if you're comfortable doing this), and make sure you are nowhere near their midsection! Adjusting fingers or shoulders are unanimously okay, but nothing else.
