Can I claim for this on my home insurance?

We have had our digital camera for roughly speaking 2 years. Roughly 5 months ago, it stopped working, and just showed an error code. We took it to be repaired and they told us that the error code meant it have either been dropped or knock somehow, and that it would cost more to repair than it was worth.
I am now hoping we can claim for unplanned damage under our contents cover. However, I am worried that the insurance company may voice we should have claimed straight away rather than trying to grasp it repaired ourselves. Does this happen?
We have never claimed formerly and so have no idea how it works!

It go into the repair shop about 6 weeks ago. We have get married and been on honeymoon so now is the first adjectives we have got since afterwards to sort this out!

Any advice appreciated.

p.s. the camera originally cost lb500, and now retails at roughly lb400.
Answers:
No, not on your homeowners policy...that's really outside the influence of what your policy covers. Where you'd be able to report something like specifically if you have a warranty on your camera.

Also, when you're considering making a claim, keep within mind a couple of things: first, for any claim, you'll have to pay your deductible beforehand your insurance kicks in. So if you own a $500 deductible the the cost of repair for _____ is $600, you're not really saving a ton. Also consider that a claim is going to stay on your file for three to five years...and the more claims you enjoy, the higher your premium will be. And if you get too abundant claims, many companies won't write your insurance.
If I understand, you took the camera on honeymoon and have an accident whilst on holiday. Phone your contents insurer as some policies will cover Personal Possessions whilst away from home, most of which will cover damage. Also ask how to net a claim. They will explain whether they will repair or replace.
If you can afford the repairs, I would go that route - claiming will boost your home insurance payments for years!
I wouldn't surmise so, the camera comes up with an error code - there is basically something wrong with your camera. Sometimes things just entail repairing, wear and tear.
Yes, you can claim.

The twist was caused by 'accidental damage' and you own 'accidental damage' cover, so yes you can claim.

However as previous answer states it might not be worth you while I'm afraid.

1) you will have to pay an excess, you will find details of how much surrounded by your policy details, but it will be at least 50 quid and for accidental wrong could be a lot more.

2) Your premiums will almost certainly walk up for the next 2-3 years if you make a claim. How much is difficult to right to be heard.

So there's a judgement call on your part to be made. Mainly it depends on how much your excess is. If you enjoy a lb 250 excess you'll only get lb150 remunerated for the claim at most (Camera cost lb400 - Excess lb250).

Add extra premium on the next year or two and the hassle of claiming... and well you return with the point.

That said, if you want to claim you should, it's a valid loss and that's why you pay your premium. The timing shouldn't be an issue.

Good luck.
I can't right to be heard so much about British insurance, but in the US, what you are chitchat about would not be covered. Normal wear and tear, and your own clumsiness are not usually covered. If you have a warranty from the manufacturer saying that it should withstand such wrong, you might be able to file underneath the manufacturer's warranty, but not under homeowners, at least not surrounded by the US. (You might be out of luck with the warranty since it could require the repairs done by repair businesses with whom they own a contract and that have taken certain training programs from them.)
You have confused me:

"it would cost more to repair than it was worth."

"The camera is worth lb400. It would cost approx lb270 to fix."
