If you are surrounded by NYC I recommend going to the NYU Dental School clinic. It's not free but WAY CHEAPER than a dentist and very helpful and professional. You can probably find impossible to tell apart type of thing at a dental college in any city.
I know exactly what you are going through.

Get on the web and see if in attendance is a dental SCHOOL near you. They usually do work for very little money.

Also, you could try an antibiotic but anything that would explanation pain for two weeks is a cavity. It will probably continue and verbs until the tooth is cared for or it breaks, which is more expensive to fix.

Call around at least, ask dentists for a break..a transfer of funds plan. Nothing is worse than tooth pain.

Lastly, provided your doc says its' okay as expected, you can take up to 800mg Ibuprofin every four hours, with tylenol two hours after respectively dose of Ib. KEEP IN MIND you do NOT want to take the IB more often or more than the 800 because it can really mess up your insides. This is a devout fix for a while, but it will wreak havoc on your tummy and is dangerous long term. EAT near the IB every single time, just a snack or at least milk. It's influential.

Lastly, skip the otc dental gels and oils, they do NOTHING for tooth misery. Like Ambesol is crap.

Your best bet is to find out where the nearest dental school is and jump see them. There fees are generally 50% less than a regular dentist and they will work next to you on a payment. Waiting or not going to the dentist at all when you hold pain can make the situation worse and cost even more surrounded by the end. Also if you havent already, apply for medicaid through the state.
