Our home is gutted due to mold. Our insurance solely covers $5000 for remediation. Can we profile for loss of use?
Maryland has mold exclusionary clauses in adjectives homeowners policies as of 2002. Secondary to roof leak, water seepage, and initial shoddy construction we found out smaller quantity than a year ago we were mold infested--record breakingly. Worried about be labeled as an uninsurable home we did not wallet a claim. It was recently brought to our attention that we should consider file a claim as we have coverage for loss of use of our dwelling. Our property loss, and reconstruction/remediation is HUGE! What if anything does the loss of use cover? Specifically does it cover packing, moving, and storing our belongings? Does it cover our rental living space? Utilities? Reinstallation of Mobile shelving? Architectural fees or any building constructions costs associated with the roof/basement wet damage and late to discover lesser mold?
HELP! My partner has to use his entire retirement account to pay cheque for all of this horrendous nightmare
Answers:
It really depends on what your policy specifies. My loss of use portion of the policy will cover hotel bills/rental unit and living expenses while I am not competent to live in my home due to a covered event. My loss of use has a coverage impede, so I would be paid up to that limit. It does not cover packing, moving or storage. I enjoy a code upgrade coverage but it has limits, too. In your skin, I suggest you read your policy and call either your agent or broker to clarify what coverages you enjoy or don't have before you report for it. Best wishes and good luck.
