Home Insurance sound out re: umbrella policy.?

I have no claims against my insurance. However, a few months ago a friend of mine came over and he run on my patio and fell and hit head. His mom be there and visually saw it happen. It be nothing I did. Could I still get it or do I call for to report it?
"> You don't need to report it, until/unless they start asking for money.

Regarding the umbrella policy, you can buy one at any point in time - but it won't retroactively cover claims.
He could cause a claim against your homeowners policy at any time within the statute of limitations. This is the amount of time the law allows him to database a lawsuit for his injury. This is different in every state; look it up online for your state.

Do you have to report it? No. But in attendance is risk in this. Let's say 2 years stir by and he suddenly files a lawsuit against you. You may think this is unlikely, but it does happen. You will report it to your insurer afterwards, and they will investigate. But they will tell you that they have a coverage cross-question because you did not report the injury in a timely manner. They could agree on they will not cover the injury because they did not have the chance to investigate and shelter in a reasonable time after the loss occur. Evidence goes away and memories fade over two years.

But there is also a risk contained by reporting the claim, because some insurers will raise your rates for reporting a claim even if no payment is made. So this is a tough finding. Your broker probably will not be required to report the claim if you tell him about it. He/she can endow with you some advice.

I would talk to your friend and find out what is going on. Is the injury serious? Will he call for ongoing care or lose wages? If yes, you should report it immediately because a claim is thoroughly likely to be filed. But if this is really minor, you can probably be off it alone and be fine.

While it appears you were not negligent, a honourable lawyer can find ways to prove negligence. Was the property safely maintain? Did he trip over something you could have removed/fixed, or warned him roughly speaking?

Also, every policy has medical payments coverage, which is similar to health insurance, and covers medical bills regardless of any guiltiness. He has a right to make a claim lower than this coverage.

As far as your question about umbrella vs homeowners, most citizens have just homeowners. But I strongly recommend getting the umbrella policy because it is exceedingly cheap and provides a lot of extra protection if you are ever sued. If you have any assets, you should hold one.
