Can you tender work to family connections member when claiming from your home insurance?

I had asked my brother to do the work but the insurance company Norwich Union are getting arsey about it.
Does it issue who I give the work to as long as its done?
Answers:
~~It depends on your insurance company. Some require licensed contractors to do the work, some just issue the check directly to you, afterwards leave you to decide who does it. Unfortunately, it sounds as if your insurance is requiring a licensed contractor.~~
Of course it matter who does the work. NU are going to be paying for the work, and have no idea if the entity you would like to choose is or is not a reputable contractor who will charge a proper rate (rather than a cowboy who will do a poor job at a rip stale rate - not that I am suggesting your brother is in this category).

And as a premium payer who might otherwise subsidise rip off claims, I hope that the insurers verbs to check.

I recently had to enjoy work done on a claim and, by coincidence, the policy was underwritten by NU. Their agents took care of everything: checking that work be needed, commissioning the work and, ultimately, paying for it. I got my work done and they got their reassurance, near everyone being satisfied.
