I am trying to get hold of form insurance, can anyone please explain to me the difference between ppo and hmo?
Answers: one of them lets u choose any docs. (i think its ppo)
Basically, the main difference is that within a PPO, you can go to any doctor you choose, though you will probably have a difficult copay. Whereas with an HMO you have to choose from a account of doctors within the network, but your copays will expected be lower.
With a PPO, you choose your doctor. With an HMO you have a list of doctors to choose from.
The most considerable difference is that with a PPO, the doctor is paid more to supply more treatment. With an HMO they are financially rewarded for providing less treatment.
PPO - Preferred Provider Organization
HMO - Health Management Organization
With an HMO, you can one and only go to in-network doctors & if you need to progress to a specialist, you need a referral from a primary care doctor. If you turn to an out of network doctor, they don't pay anything.
With a PPO, you can travel to any doctor you want. If in network, they pay packet everything, less your copay. If out of network they pay packet about 75% of the bill, less your copay. You do not inevitability a referral to go to a specialist.
At my office, you can chose any HMO or PPO with Blue Cross & believe it or not the HMO is more expensive than the PPO. The only difference surrounded by our plan is the PPO has a $500 deductible & the HMO doesn't. To me, PPOs are much better, but that is only my opinion.
