Answers: They are OK as long as you know what you are getting and are OK near the limitations. They are a “Basic Hospital/Medical Surgical Expence policy”, not a major medical plan like most policies.

The Mega deductible is per confinement, which process if you go into the hospital 3 times in one year you own 3 deductibles to meet.

Lifetime maximum for Mega is $1 Million.

Mega has an annual maximum per complaint of $500,000. No maximum for most other plans.

Depending upon the policy, Mega will only pay UP to $500 per hours of daylight if you are admitted to the hospital. Average cost for hospital stays- $3000 per day.

Depending upon the policy, Mega will with the sole purpose pay UP to $1500 per day if you are contained by ICU. Average cost - $8000 per day.

Doctor visits while you are contained by the hospital is limited to $50 per visit and predetermined to ONE visit per day. Average cost - $120, Average number of visit – TWO.

Ambulance transport is limited to $250 per trip and payable only if you are admit to the hospital. If you are transported to the ER and not admitted - no benefits. The average cost for ambulance - $1000.

Air ambulance is not covered unless additional rider purchased. Maximum benefits near Mega are $3500. Average cost - $12,000. Many air ambulance bills are upward to $20,000.

Many other limitations for: miscellaneous hospital inpatient charges, inpatient and outpatient surgery, routine physicals, anesthesiologist and more. Plus you have the expensive annual dues.

Do a little bit of web research on Mega Life and Health - check the assorted Better Business Bureaus and such.

We are an Independent Brokerage that represents all the major carrier in our state - Mega Life & Health only uses "Captive" agents - Meaning they are barred to sell other company's policys. In the health insurance open market - I do not see "captive" agents as having all the information requisite in order to properly vend a policy.

This leads me to this: While Mega Life & Health is a good insurance company - I find that most of the complaints that we hear within our firm are directly related to the agent(s) that sell the policys. One of the biggest complaints is how deeply of their agents fail to mention "riders" that need to be sold near the policy in order to cause it a "comprehensive" policy. In otherwords - people think they are buying one piece - and when they go to use the policy - they found they have bought something else.

One quiz to ask a Mega Life and Health agent - Ask them to give you a "sample policy certification" so that you can review it. I can supply one of these for every mover we represent - but for some reason I hear it is very difficult for a Mega Life and Health agent to supply one of these to their potential clients.
