How long is a parent responsible to provide vigour insurance for a child?

Does anyone know if a parent is obliagted to provided insurance to a child who is 18 and is attending college as a full time student?
PS Please don't attack me personally, I'm asking for a the 18 year old who is a neighbor. She's surrounded by a bad situation with her mother

It is my understanding that the parent is not obligated to provide insurance unless she is claiming child as a dependent on her taxes, and even then, she might not be required to. This is in recent times my personal understanding. Someone w/ a law point could provide more info. Maybe repost question in the decree section.
yes i ruminate that you have to provide health insurance if the child is packed up and if he reside at the parent house and can't takes care of his or herself.

OK... unless it's a court ordered child support issue, in that is not 'LEGAL OBLIGATION' for a parent to provide health insurance. If a family chooses not to hold ANY insurance, there is no law against it. There own been a couple of answers that state that insurance must be carried as long as the child is a full time student or reaches a secure age. Again, this is ONLY if there is a child support order from a divorce and these unanimously end at age 18 or as long as the child is a full time student attending HIGH SCHOOL.. .not college.
The actual fact is... once a child turns 18 and completes High School (or drops out) they are considered an full-size and responsible for their own needs. Most employer provided health insurance does allow for parents to insure their children as long as they are surrounded by college... but it's not mandatory.
So... looking at the situation that you mention. Your friend must come to terms with the certainty she is considered an adult and must now provide for herself. A parent's true responsibility ends at 18/end of High School. If she is living with her mother, she should be thankful that her mom is providing her next to a place to live and the basic necessaties of life.
Time for your friend to buckle down, find a job and purchase her own insurance.

In Texas,A parent is obligated to wage health insurance and child support until the child is 18 but If that child lives with the custodial parent while attending college the parent have to pay until 21.That's the way my advocate put it to me. D
