Under Canada's national strength insurance, is surgery to remove cancer considered an "elective" surgery?

I'm trying to find out if Canada's universal health insurance covers surgical procedures to remove cancer.

Please simply answer if you truly know.
Answers:
Yes, absolutely. Source(s): relatives with cancer surrounded by Canada
I've had surgury for cance in Canada, I'm Canadian it's covered elective is for something not really prerequisite like fixing a nose or breast augmentation. Actually if they would own removed my breast I could have had a breast augmentation and it also would enjoy been covered in Canada as piece of the cancer surgury. Good luck and I hope your okay.
Good grief, NO. Cancer surgery is not elective, a nose job is elective.

I truly know as I enjoy had surgery for cancer twice in Ontario. What is this - panic mongering from the fat cat health insurers within the US?
Absolutely Not!

Cancer is not considered elective. Elective surgeries are ones that are not truly necessary, such as cosmetic procedures, surgeries with no urgency or haphazard of threatening the life of the patient, etc.

Cancer is duration threatening and must be dealt with, consequently it is not considered elective.

I hope this helps.

Take care.
