Tri care has different level of coverage. Call The Tricare # on your card and see if you have elected Routine Vision Care. Then, if you do have it, findout who is a provider within your area. Tricare will tell you if you christen them, and they are good with most of the coverages that they hold if you find out who the providers are. It is not that hard.
Under tricare prime you should get free glasses along next to an eye exam once a year. Unless you are an active duty flier, forget about them paying for contacts.

I am an insurance manager for an optometric practice. Tricare NEVER pays for glasses or contacts (only exception is following cataract sx and that's a one time thing). There's not even any discount. Also, depending on your tricare; they may not cover the eye exam. If you enjoy tricare Active Duty; then yes, you can have one covered eye exam every year. If it's tricare Retired: one and only tricare prime will pay for a Routine eye exam and only every 2 years. Tricare standard retired and tricare extra retired will merely pay for an eye exam if you have a medical diagnoses such as diabetes, glaucoma, cataract, etc. Also if you have Tricare prime (either retired or active duty) and you are see for a medical condition such as diabetic eye exam or just a red eye; you will need a referral from your PCP and you will own a $12 copay.

Of course this all relates to off substructure care. On base, i believe you can gain glasses or contacts with tricare.
