It is in a nation BEST INTEREST to have a population that is good. Providing free health care is one opening to try and ensure that.....It is better for people to try and prevent serious illness that loaf till it's too late.
It is better for a person to thieve themselves off to see a doctor at the earliest stages of an infectious disease so that perhaps they can be treated and or quarrantined BEFORE spreading it to the entire community and if by providing free form insurrance that helps that take place economically IT'S IN YOUR OWN INTEREST TOO ...

It's not about making it free - nothing is free, as you are comparatively aware. It's about making sure everyone has access to it, which is not lone better for everyone, it also ends up making it cheaper for everyone.

A lot of the "conservatives" that I know what free insurance, too, and they want it from their employer -- employer-paid health, vision, dental, prescription and existence insurance, not to mention, company cars, vehicle allowances, meal allowances, clothing allowances, tuition assistance, employer sponsored daycare for their children and on and on.
The problem is there's no such thing as free -- somebody other pays for it. For those who work for government agencies, the costs of those benefits gets passed on to the taxpayers. Those who work within the private sector get their benefits at the expense of the customers who buy their employer's goods or services.
Are things varying -- absolutely, many employer can't or aren't willing to pay the glorious cost of those benefits -- it's one of the reasons so many businesses want to bring their operations overseas. It's why some employers want to hire risky immigrants.
And, not all of us are looking for something free, some of us are looking for a average level of benefits for a reasonable cost. As for me, I prefer getting my own insurance that passageway I control what my level of coverage is, not my employer. I also don't have to verbs about losing my insurance when a job ends. Do I expect my insurance premiums to be logically priced -- you bet. Do I expect the cost of medical treatment and procedures to be reasonable -- you bet, I also go over my bills and look for math errors and tactless charges. One of the problems with the cost of insurance anymore is that so many race don't pay for their insurance, somebody else does so why worry around the cost. And, because so many people enjoy insurance, they really don't care about the cost of medical treatment and prescriptions - somebody else is paying for it.
You know something that really irritates me, its the difference contained by the cost of prescription drugs in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. During the last two years of my mother's existence, she took dozens of prescriptions. If we filled them in the U.S., they other cost more -- a lot more. One of her prescriptions cost about $180.00/month when complete in the U.S. It was smaller number than $50.00/month in Mexico -- same brand, same formulary.
I don't consider myself to be a liberal or a conservative, a Republican or a Democrat and I find very little of worth in the partisan bickering that have become such high fashion.
Yeah, the thought of health insurance companies not being competent to rob people blind is so distasteful...
