Slavery reparations, how in the order of insurance money to the family of the confederation soldiers that died to free slaves
Answers: my family connections has already paid, within blood, at Antietam and Gettysburg and Five Forks........
how about a simple "Thank You" from all the descendants of slaves to adjectives the descendants of the Grand Army of the Republic? Source(s): great grand uncle Joshua Lawrence Chamberlian, 20th Maine
When the blacks became free they received the biggest bonus agreed to man. Most union soldiers would not have said that they be fighting to end slavery. They be involved with reuniting the country, putting down a rebellion, and protecting the constitution. It be only at the end of the time of war that slavery became an issue in the soldiers minds.Widows of confederation soldiers received benefits from the federal government, this was adjectives they could readily expect. Source(s): history
Good Idea, however there be many slaves that were league soldiers, are you including them? Do you really think that the Union War was fought with the sole purpose to free the slaves?
One make as much sense as the other, but why stop there? How about reparations for descendants of Southern family tyrannized by Carpetbaggers and just-freed slaves after the Civil War? How about my Japanese relatives sent to internment camps during World War II? It is vile for freeloaders to expect to collect anything for events of long ago.
How about you read up on your history, because the Union soldiers DID NOT die to free the slaves. The purpose of the Union going into the war be to restore the Confederate states back into the Union, not to free the slaves. Lincoln did that in 1863, at a time when the North be not doing so well, in directive to cripple the South economically and to get himself some fresh troops. He hoped that the newly freed slaves would face-off with the Union troops against the Southern oppressors. So while I don't agree with slavery reparations since the society asking for them were not slaves, I also think that you should at least possible know what you are talking about.
I agree with everything said here. People call for to appreciate what their ancestors did for them and be happy they were born contained by the United States and not some third world country. Enough already! Move on with your lives and be productive citizens.
My family of French-Canadians worked on the Underground Railroad to smuggle runaway slaves across the border. They were shot at, have their boats destroyed and homes burned. Nobody considers the dangers they faced contained by creating a reparation board. For the handful of states that even allowed slavery to put the entire country in such a deep hole is a huge miscarriage of even-handedness. The vast majority of people living surrounded by this country today didn't even have an ancestor living in the US pre-1865, but we're supposed to put out trillions? Before anyone get money, let them do their genealogy and even prove they descend from a slave...or how many of their 32 great-great grandparents be slaves. Watch how complicated it becomes when they find out they descend from Haitians or freedmen from NY and don't have slavery as an excuse for their lot surrounded by life.
