Does a free standing wooding burning stove surrounded by your home generate your homeowners insurance highly developed?

Answers: Most companies will any write them or not. It's yes/no because charging more premium would indicate they accept the risk but require more $$. Most will feel the risk is any significant or too small to bother (probably based on their claims experience).
I worked for one company that had complex deductibles for wood stove damage and required pictures and documentation that the stoves were installed correctly.

Call around, some of the big direct writers will adopt wood stoves. Source(s): http://www.insuranceyak.com/
If your honest to the company and tell them about this, they may any exclude any loss from the heater or not write it at all. It's a huge liability! (An twist of fate waiting to happen). We had one as a kid and count how many times we caught the hearth rug on fire!

The main problem will be finding a company that will write it near the free standing wood burning unit in the property... Source(s): Texas Agent
Yes. Insurance companies have "tiers" of rates - most preferred, preferred, standard, etc. No insurance company will give you "most preferred" rates if you hold a wood stove, and most won't give you preferred - only standard.

Most also put on a surcharge - $40 to $100 - newly for the existance of the wood stove.

The downside of not telling them, is that if there's a claim, not disclosing that stove is material misrepresentation - and grounds for denying ANY claim, and cancel your policy. Source(s): agent, 21+ years
I am in New England where on earth every other house (& even more than that) have woodstoves. Around here a woodstove does NOTmake a difference in premiums or coverages as long as it is properly installed next to correct clearances and with its own flue. It has to be UL scheduled & conform with the National Fire Safety Assoc regulations. If it shares a flue with your furnace or another woodstove, you will NOT obtain coverage anywhere.
The only company I even saw charge more (& this is only $50 per year) is Foremost and we singular use them as a last resort if the house has other issues that produce it hard to find coverage for. Source(s): Insurance agent in New England
Not within my state. If you are already insured and have recently added or are planning to join a wood burning stove, check with your company agent for installation details that will conform to the safety requirements endorsed by the insurance company. If you are shopping for insurance, it will for sure be of interest to the underwriter and could prevent issuance of the policy in some cases. Either they accept or not adopt the risk, the cost does not go up. Source(s): I am a former licensed p&c agent with 15 years contained by the field.
