Do police officer hold free medical insurance?

I know that most departments offer free medical insurance for police, but do they also offer free medical insurance for spouses and children? Would they still submission it to you and your spouse and children after retiring from the force?

Thank you!
Answers:
What country are you from. Are you saying that some people own to pay for medical treatment? I would get out spur-of-the-moment if that is the case.
Most cops get matching medical benefits of other public employees, which is pretty good, but not free.
Wow, if that's true, I have need of to transfer ! It's not free, but I have see private or smaller companies and their costs are extremely high ! It's not bad as long as you don't hold a spouse or family, then it starts to attain expensive, over $100 a\ month.
Heck no.......I wage about 400 a month
First no many departments do not offer FREE medical insurance but it is only just like many other job, the employee has to settle a portion of it. There are many departments that don't even offer insurnace or any benifits to officer, our county police did not even have any insurance till this year, and it is a very min policy for singular the officer.

so please you are completely misinformed, maybe your local department officers the insurnace free, but this is not nearly the method alot of departments do it.

As for dependent insurance, just like most work places the officer have to pay that portion or at least cog of that portion to get the coverge.

At retirement, again it will depend, if you are speaking of at 65, then no, adjectives company insurance ends at 65 and you have to take medicare and buy your own suppliment,
If you are disucssing beforehand 65, it will just depend on the regulatoinsof that departmetn
most of the time state and county will put the cities you pay a moment or two bit for it
It can be, mine is technically free, I receive a stipend as part of my paycheck which is intended for a city medical plan, if I had dependants it would be over the stipend and I would foot a little out of pocket.

Some agencies offer lifetime medical after retirement as a perk.
This is not a yes or no answer respectively department, county, state etc is different. With the rising cost of insurance there are not as many any more that submit "free" medical insurance most make you pay something or they administer it free to you and you pay some for your family. That human being said the public safety field is set for normally having remarkably good health benefits.
I can report to you that here we have great insurance compared to most others in our state.

It is not free but close satisfactory. We get full medical, dental, eye, and prescription benefits for our whole familial. It cost us very little out of pocket, figures out to roughly speaking $100 a month or less for most. It cost me absolutely nought to go to the dentist, would cost nothing to walk the eye doctor, and we have small copays on all doctors visit and prescriptions. We expect to start paying more with the next contract discussions as the cost to the county just keeps rising.

I believe our State Troopers get 100% coverage for "free" whereas many of our municipal officers enjoy to pay quite a bit for theirs. It vary a lot.
Not a adjectives. My agency provides insurance for me, no cost. for my wife and child it costs me a little over $600.00 per month. That does not include dental or vision premiums. Oh, and at top step a deputy for my agency make less than 40k/year.

When I retire, I can carry on beside the benefits but I won't because of the cost
Yeah Right, to coin a phrase; Nothing is free.
Depends on the agency in cross-examine. It really depends on the city or county policies. Police Dept's are a department of whatever city they are in and so they turn by the same guidelines as everyone else.I worked for a PD in AZ that rewarded 100% medical insurance for the employee and their family. That be a great job! Now I work for a PD that still pays a large chunk of my medical costs. I contemplate I only pay resembling $15.00/month for Kaiser medical insurance. It isn't free but I can't complain! It also depends on whatever union the police are through and what they've negotiate in their contract. Same goes for retiring and getting free medical...adjectives depends on the agency & union contract.
The city I worked for picked up part of the premium. You get some what of a break after retirement, but not much. No dental. Source(s): Me, retired Police Officer
no just donuts and coffee.
It depends, it's up to each city council to decide and set the rules for benefit packages for the police department contained by their city. Many include free benefits for families, but with the cost of insurance going up more nad more are requiring some cost sharing on medical insurance costs. It would be best for you to contact the department you are considering and inquiring roughly benefit packages, including retirement. There are some places and cities where growth has exploded and they are desperate for up to date officers and are increasing benefits and pay packages. It's worth looking into, Scottsdale Arizona happen to be really pulling out all the stops for new officer. I'm sure other cities will soon follow this trend and retention policies will be boosted in the future.

While retirement packages normally include your spouse, children are often only covered through the college years if they are surrounded by school full time, beyond that benefits are not usually extended unless they are considered dependents like if they are disabled or own down syndrome, etc.
That adjectives depends on the department. The one I worked for, it was free for the employees, and be about 110. for medical and dental for my kids to be added. The bigger department with more body, or any job for that matter, the cheaper the insurance usually is.
