Dental Insurance Question?
My husband & I carry dental ins. for us & our daughter who's 19 & a full time student. A year ago our daughter went into the dentist & have braces put on, After 7 months in treatment , she didn't want them anymore, so she had them taken rotten. Neither my husband or I signed the contract. She signed the contract herself & provided them with a chk from her chking acct so that they could deduct her monthly expenditure. When she had them removed neither my husband or I signed for that either. We a short time ago received a bill from the ortho $1600.00 for her broken contract. I called them & let them know that the collection see should be sent to my daughter not my husband, since he did not sign any contract. They told me that cause he is carries the insurance he's the responsible group, not my daughter. I asked, if he's the respnosible party, shouldn't he have have to OK for a $3000.00 treatment for my daughter? They said no, she was 18, but we need to wages the bill or it'll go on our credit. Help!

Better consult an attorney. You might not be charged anything for a consult fee and it should be much if there is a levy as they will probably just send bad a letter to the ortho and be done with it. If you own to pay it, I hope you ask your daughter to help earn that wager on. She was so wrong to commit you guys to something so huge! How did she get your insurance ID card? Did the insurance rate any of that? If it was covered, they should have compensated their portion because they pay when the braces are put on. They don't care when they are removed...
Why would your daughter be allowed to sign for something that she just a carrier on? Fault of the dentist bureau. Also, why would someone get braces and turn around and get them removed? I'm somewhat confused on this one!
Your dentist is right in charging you because it's you and your husband who pass the dental insurance, so it's you two who are responsible for the payment.
Your dentist is also right in allowing her to put them on and pinch them off because she's over 18. It was her right to ask for that treatment and her right to discontinue it.
Also in attendance is no way that you can force your daughter to pay. Remember, your daughter also salaried the dentist out of her pocket and in no way she legitimately had to!
If you guys don't want to be responsible for your daughter of if you think you can somehow force her to repay that fee, you and your husband have no official grounds, other than kicking her out of your insurance for the future.
The reality that you paid for her insurance doesn't entitle you to have veto power over her medical decision.
