http://dentalplans.com is a good source if you are not covered by an employer.
My personal experience is that most families with somewhat healthy teeth lose big time buying their own insurance, and that families beside unhealthy teeth at best break even. The cost of regular checkups and daily home watchfulness (flossing and brushing) is far cheaper out of pocket than out of most individual insurance plans premiums.

I would advise you to first do research on how dental insurance works, decide what (if any) coverage you have need of, and find a good broker if you still decide that you want it.

The with the sole purpose time recommend dental insurance to a patient is if their employer is picking up at least partly of the premium. Otherwise, you'll save more money going out of pocket and/or using your medical savings (aka Flex spending) accounts.

Also, beware of psuedo-insurance: discount plans masquerading as dental insurance. If you wage less than $150 only once a year to travel to a limited list of participating dentists, you are getting a discount plan, not insurance. Many of these plans negotiate dentistry at gaping discounts. You pay the company a membership duty, they pay absolutely none of it towards your dental thoroughness. Be careful; the economics of these plans gives doctors every lure to bait and switch you into higher priced elective procedures. Source(s): Vu Le, DDS

-Should I buy my own dental insurance?
-What's the difference between an HMO and a PPO?
You will not generally find biddable dental insurance for individuals. The thing is, insurance companies are in BUSINESS and they want to be paid a PROFIT. They know exactly how much any given group is going to spend for their dental needs, so they construct a fee agenda for that group and decide how much premium that they will need to charge to reward out those fees for that group and still make money. Dental insurance can be a big loser for the insurance companies, because EVERYONE has dental problems. Not everyone have a heart attack.
My sis used Delta Dental - it give a max of $1650 a year - this was thru her company but would have cost around $30 a month - she still have to pay a %age contribution on most things!
So cant give you any overall warning but just how she found Delta
