Will this be covered surrounded by my home contents insurance?

I have recently taken up contents insurance through Direct file.

A few days ago, I was taking my washing from the tool, and realised I had left my MP3 Player surrounded by my pocket.

I have left the player within a box, with a bag of silica gel, within a warm environment but it seems comatose. The player is a Creative Vision:M 30gb and to replace it would cost around lb140.

Does anyone know if this would be covered on my contents insurance, or would it be a waste of time bothering direct line. I hold read the documents that came with the policy but I couldnt find a tolerable answer.

Thanks.

probably but check your excess
if you have to pay an excess..might not be worth it. you own nothing to lose by ringing them & asking as all policies are different.
All policies are different and the with the sole purpose way you will find out is by reading it thoroughly. I know you said you have read it but did you read the entire chapter relevant to you?...its not just the 'certificate' you should have

If you remuneration for accidental damage your possibly covered but the excess is expected to be higher than the player is worth
I don't think that leaving an MP3 Player contained by your pocket and then putting that item of clothing in a wash machine constitutes accidental impair, but rather more accurately negligence. You certainly couldn't present these set of circumstances to an insurance company and expect it to be a valid claim.
This would come underneath accidental damage, this is an extra fact with some home insurance policies or an added extra. If I were you I would name the insurer and see if your policy covers this or not, also check your excess you may find the hassle is not worth it depending what your excess is set at.
if your insurance covers chance damage then you should be covered
If you have fluky damage cover on your policy then it should be covered. (At smallest the decent insurance companies I deal near would cover it - subject to excess)

If you have a standard 'new for old' policy then it won't.

(And obviously I bet Direct Line have a lb100 excess anyway) Source(s): Insurance Broker.
i agree it might be covered if you have casual damage cover but you might find the excess is between lb50 and lb100 so you wouldn't get rear legs enough to buy a new one.

If it is smaller quantity than a year old then it might still be underneath guarantee - so you could dry it out totally until there is no trace of moisture then give somebody a lift it back to the shop and say it stopped working......dont speak about them about the washing mechanism bit!

You get ripped off by key companies, so you might as well rip em back.....
It depends on what type of coverage you hold: All Risk or Named Perils. If it's the former, maybe. If it's the latter, no.
Also I would be surprised if your claim is above your deductible. If it is it wouldn't be by much, so you would receive back amazingly little. Add that to the fact that you would be losing out on any claims free discount (or even the possibility of being dropped by your insurer altogether on renewal) vehicle it's unlikely you would come out ahead.
maybe try relating Direct line a white lie, ie a story explicitly more likely to get you covered.
only if it be specified on you policy
Doesn't sound like human being covered by content insurance. At least in US or Canada, it won't be covered. If it's worn out by fire, or stolen, then you can claim it... but not in your wash machine! Source(s): http://www.angelinsuredeal.com/
In the US - contents coverage is unanimously a "named peril" policy.

That means - that within order for it to be covered - the cause of the devastate has to specifically named within the policy. Generally, perils include things like - fire, lighting, windstorm, hailstones.

It does not sound like this loss would jump down under any of the named peril. And since it's super bowl time - if you are moving your flat screen tv for your super bowl party and drop it - that violate is not covered either. Source(s): Insurance Adjuster 12 years
Just claim, if they don't pay up, dance somewhere else next year, they would'nt deserve your custom.
Its worth a try.
