You phone the number up i.e. on the documents you have from Abbey National.
Your contents policy will not pay for a "broken" TV. Now, if it be damaged by lightening, or fire, you would have a claim, minus your deductible.

If you enjoy a claim, your settlement would also be determined by whether or not you have a "replacement cost endorsement", which would pay to replace the TV beside "like kind and quality", minus the deductible. If not, it will be base on depreciated value, minus the deductible.

Contact your agent, or read the policy.

Also, it would be advisable to talk beside your agent about life insurance. Source(s): Retired agent/mgr., 30 yrs.
In the US lone theft and fire is covered. I don't know about where on earth you are at.

Better call your agent and ask.
phone them up and they will either stir through the claim with you or send out claim forms.
Can you please clarify what you mean when you say your box has broken, ie do you have any belief about what caused it to break down?

If it be simply a case of mechanical breakdown (eg due to prehistoric age or "wear and tear") then I'm afraid it won't be covered and the claim would be rejected. This is a standard exclusion on home insurance policies and it would be the same for any other home insurer.
On page 12 of the Abbey policy booklet, you will see that clause 3(e) excludes electrical or powered breakdown.

How old is the TV? If it is still under guarantee or if it is still covered by an extended warranty, you could claim on that instead, as this would cover mechanical/electrical breakdown whereas home insurance doesn't.

If the TV is rather old and it isn't worth much, then it may not be worth claiming on your home insurance anyway as near would probably be an excess to pay (this will be stated on your policy schedule document).

In summary, whether you can claim adjectives depends how the damage happened. If it be mechanical breakdown, then it wouldn't be covered underneath any contents policy. Alternatively, if it was caused by a lightning strike (and they would check the worn out TV and weather records etc make sure specifically the case) then it would be covered under the policy.
