Contents insurance for shared apartment?

I would like some contents insurance as my landlord is reluctant to win that kind of insurance, and as I understand it, its without blemish legal to not have contents insurance, its simply building insurance thats required for landlords.

Soo, I would like to have some contents insurance for myself, as the other guys I share beside are reluctant to share it. One of them will be moving out soon, and the other guy reckons his stuff isnt worth more than a few hundred quid at the most so not interested in paying for insurance.

Ive phoned around and I can apply for insurance only just for myself, BUT most of the companies tell me that I cant apply for insurance just for myself if the property is shared. The insurance companies that do adopt shared properties insist that the cover is for the whole house and occupants.

Help! Can anyone support me and link me to some insurance companies who can help me surrounded by my situation/requirements?

Also, all occupants bedrooms (including mine) hold locks on them (key locks). Not sure if this makes any difference.

Thanks in credit for any help/advice

Two companies specialise in the individual contained by rented property market. Homelet is one. Endsleigh (remember them from your student days) is another. Try them.
I expect that you might have got your wires crossed...you should be capable of get individual contents insurance, but not individual buildings insurance. The buildings insurance will be covered by your landlord(I'm a landlord) either by the command company dealing with your block or by the landlord direct. Contents insurance, comparatively correctly in my view, should be the responsibility of the individual tenant. Ensure you are asking for contents insurance. Its as a rule standard to cover up to about lb30k, so that covers most homes. You just want to split the cost and make sure you read the small print!
Go to www.endsleigh.com - they will cover you.
Had a similar problem.
I found endesleigh [think that is the correct spelling.]
They specialise within this type of cover and are very reasonable.
Try money supermarket.com they may be able to help.
