How do we find out if an insurance company(residential or commercial) is not a phantasm company?

Is there a government website where on earth we can check to make sure the company in request for information is a legitimate insurance company by typing the company's name and/or address?
Answers:
www.ambest.com is the source that insurance agents use to check up on the financial stability of a company. This way you can not just see if they are a real company, but you can also see how strong they are financially.

You could check the Better Business Bureau website or the site for your state's Insurance Commissioner.

In my experience, you should always go next to a large, well-known, well-respected company, even if it costs more. The one item you don't want to happen is to need to report a claim only to find out that your insurance company doesn't really exist. Source(s): http://www.bbb.org/
You can usually find out through the state bureau of insurance.

Or, if you're okay beside a more general (and probably easier to find) answer, check out the AM Best web site: <>.http://www.ambest.com>. AM Best is an company to ranks insurance companies' financial strength and stability.
Have you tried contacting the Better Business Bureau in the area? Some areas are on dash -

Check the Department of Insurance website for the state that you are in. You can furrow out there name or license number on the site. It will report to you if they are licensed in the state to do business or if there license is still alive.
