My boyfriend is looking for a new car, he found a nice rover something or other and he requests to know how much insurance will cost he searched on the internet and found the exact car he have viewed the day until that time and it said "insurance group 5" can anyone shed some light on what this means Thank you

Oh and does anyone know how big of a opening it would be if the head gasket is blown?
(the head gasket hasn't blown but rumours are rovers are prone to blown team leader gaskets and i was wondering how big of a job it would be to fix)

Thanks
Answers:
Group 5 is pretty cheap. The scale goes high than 10 so five is fairly low.
Insurance companies classify cars in instruct to provide the correct level of insurance. To do this each vehicle is assigned a group between 1 (the "cheapest") and 20 (supercar territory). This means that each model of coupé can be accurately banded with cars of similar characteristics. There can be a significant spread of groups within a individual model range. So a Group 5 car is something like a quarter of the way up the scale.

Some Rover engines do indeed suffer from head-gasket problems, which can be a bit expensive to fix. I'd google the model you have in mind, doesn`t matter what that is, and try to find discussion groups about it, plus reviews etc.
insurance what a joke i have 2 cars a audi a6 ins group 17 a vw ins group 12 the premium for the audi is cheaper than the vw progress figure rover went bust for a justification
if the head gasket goes next the car is scrap really, stay away from hoary rovers if fact say away from any rovers, look for japanese cars, seriously, something similar to an old civic will fit the bill and it will never go wrong. About the insurance groups they walk from one to about 13+ i think anyway thay freshly means how expensive it will be, now for voice a 25+ driver with some no claims bonus it won't break the bank so do not verbs to much, just take out quotes from everyone to see who give the cheapest.
My Rover 416 is 10 years frail and has never blown a head gasket even so
The premium will depend on his age, experience and claims history as well as his postcode, payment arrangements and the use of the car:- The best thing to do is forget about the insurance group and just phone one of the hundreds of cheap insurance companies out there for a free quote.

Head gaskets for rovers are two a penny-i would source from a scrapyard and procure a garage to fit it CIH
Changing a guide gaskett is by the looks of it quite a big job. Not one to do yourself unless you enjoy a mechanical mind. The only problem if you help yourself to it to a garage is the cost. They will charge you at least lb600. to do the job, including parts and grind.
My Rover 200 is soon to blow its head gasket.
Its unfortunate because apart from that, they are really devout cars. Insurance is cheap, and they are cheap to run. Plus good cars to drive. The engines, for their age and size, are powerful and economical.
