(Toronto, Canada) Why is motor insurance mandatory? And why do I want it to legaly drive?

What if I drive someone elses car and obviously they wont hold my name in their insurance. Is that officially recognized? even if their insurance is not third party?
Answers:
The roads that you are driving on belong to the public. They have as much right as you to use them. If you make a mistake and crash someones sports car, they have the right to expect you to pay for it. Unless you enjoy the cash to do that, and it could run into 100's of thousands of dollars, if any medical damage is done. That's why the policy demands that you are covered with insurnace to protect the public against loss.

good luck -- drive nontoxic.
Car insurance became mandatory in the us and canada and other countries several years ago. It become mandatory to protect victims of accidents. Before it became mandatory, if someone get in an accident and the entity at fault didn't have insurance...the subject was pretty much screwed...especially if the person at glitch didn't have any type of funding for the victim to rest damages and medical expenses. I don't know about canada...but in the us as long as you are a licensed driver and enjoy the owner's permission to drive the car you will be covered.

Hope this help
You are covered when driving someone else's car by their insurance as long as you haven't stolen it. :-) If they give you consent, there is no problem.

As for the requirements of law, you are solitary required to have liability insurance to cover the other person. It is recommended whether you cover yourself or not. If you have a nice car, you are better stale getting collision and comprehensive coverage even if you feel you are a good driver.

Unfortunately, you own no guarantee the guy behind you isn't going to plow into you at the next table lamp, etc.

My car isn't worth much, so I stick with the undressed minimum required. :-)

A lot of insurance companies in the US allow a driver who is given permission the capability to drive a car.

Insurance is necessary for financial responsibility. Without it, in attendance is no way that a victim of an automobile luck can get their car repaired next to no out of pocket expense.

You get insurance to protect the other guy. Without it, you better be wealthy, because i.e. also financial responsibility. They just want to be sure you can pay for any harmed that you may cause.
You are legally allowed to borrow someone's coup¨¦ and drive it without your name on their insurance. If you live next to the person however, you must have your identify on the insurance to drive the car (at least as a inferior driver).

Having insurance is obviously a good notion. If you hit someone and it was your fault, they could sue you for however much it costed. (Imagine it be a Ferrari or something.. yikes!) You can have different kinds of insurance that will also oblige if there was a hit and run, or it be stolen, etc. Some people don't get that kindly on old cars because the cost to replace the lost vehicle would be less than the extra amount on their insurance.

There's abundantly more to it as well. It all have to do with liabilities and legalities.
ya its leagal. you need insurance because its a thing next to governments. especially Canada's government. they lately, don't like people to grasp screwed when there's a problem.
Most insurance will cover any driver who has okay to drive the car...as long as the coverage states that it does cover under such circumstances. You requirement insurance to drive b/c accidents happen and if you're not insured, it become costly for everyone involved. It's required all over the United States. At least that style you don't have to worry going on for someone totalling your car (and you) and not being competent to cover it.
It's not so much for your protection as other people's. If you own an accident and you're at fault, the insurance make sure that you will have enough money to cover damages.

I know our auto insurance covers us when we drive a rental saloon. When my ex borrowed my parent's car, he was covered by their insurance. (And so, when he get in an accident, it would own made their insurance go up if we hadn't settled privately.)
Yes it should cover you, as most insurance covers the car not the driver. The plea that insurance is manditory is that most drivers will not have enough money to cover damages and injuries that they may inflict to other drivers.
