Is it possible to buy insurance JUST for fire & nil else for a home?

Answers: do you plan on burning your house down and doing a claim? then next to all the floods this last year why would you basically want fire protection?
sure you can...its call a dwelling fire policy and specifically a DP1 Form. It is the most basic fire policy you can get. It does not take replacement cost, it is written on ACV. Source(s): agent
You can, but I certainly would not recommend it. You minute that you could cover all other losses except a total loss to your home and contents. What happens if somebody sustains a serious injury on your property and you be negligent? Can you afford to compensate the injured party? You could be devasted for life span should this happen. I really think you should make another study of. Source(s): Claims adjuster - 20+ years.
no. you would need buildings and contents cover to gain fire insurance that pays out for all of your stuff for a fire.

It is a strange question that lead me to think there may be a root you ONLY want fire......
It is possible, but not advisable. Most insurance brokers offer non-standard, or surplus lines coverage for basic fire insurance.

Unfortuantely, if you strip it down to JUST fire, and call a halt up having a windstorm which knocks a tree into your house, you are out of luck. Or if an uninsured driver make your living room into a drive-thru. Or if your toilet overflows while you are on vacation, and floods the place, distroying the floors and walls.

Fire insurance pays for just fire. Not the cost to find another place to live until your house is rebuild. It does not provide replacement of your possessions.

So, what I would suggest, is a Broad form coverage. That provides for fire, theft, wind, vehicle, etc., but instead of REPLACEMENT cost, it gives you actual cash importance. So if your house is 25 years old, it takes what the significance of it at the time of the fire minus depreciation, and that's what you will be receiving as a settlement. It is NOT the best coverage, but it is a far cry from fire only. You never know when that extreme windstorm or falling tree branch will render your home red-tagged.

Another problem of buying just fire insurance is lack of personal liability insurance. What happen if your kid gets in a fracas with someone on the school grounds and breaks his muzzle, glasses, etc? Your homeowner insurance would pay that kid's medical bills. Or if your dog bites the mailman? Your liability would cover that, too. Source(s): Licensed insurance agent.
You MAY be able to convince an insurer to do a specialist policy for you, but to be honest its such a dubious request I doubt there would be much of a premium good for you anyway. Insurance broker would probably be the best avenue to finding a suitable policy...

NB: this woud only apply if the property was unmortgaged, otherwise you will be breaking the lingo of your mortgage by not having full buildings insurance.
Building insurance.
Maybe if you went back surrounded by time 200 years. Otherwise you have two options: Ask for the most straightforward policy an insurer has, which would cover Named Perils on both the Home and Contents, or get a broker to arrange a manuscript policy next to a specialty insurer, which will end up costing you three to four times as much.
i agree with the first answer
its strange why you want that
are you planning something.....?
No I don't think so. You can afford to rebuild after an explosion can you? what if a truck or uninsured vehicle crashes into your property............what if,what if? Some awfully unusual but devastating things can happen! even if it's a flat/apartment your property could still be severely affected by what happen to the block.
Unless you don't have a mortgage on the home, you are required to have Homeowners insurance. You can't enjoy a mortgage without coverage. If you don't have a mortgage, you can own dwelling fire coverage, but it's not smart...it's limited and will cover content.
It varies from state to state, but surrounded by most states you can get what's called a fire policy. This usually one and only covers the structure, not contents. And I'm pretty sure you can't get it if you owe money on the house, or reside within it.
