Can i buy my sports car backbone of an insurance company and bring the diluted repaired myself ?

Hello last Tuesday someone banged into the backbone of my car and left a big dent near paint coming off. There is not much damaged but the insurance companies evaluators said that he will enjoy to cut it out and replace it and im afraid they will write the car off due to the cost. if this happen can i buy the car back of the insurance company ? and also i own been told if i buy the car subsidise i have to take up to Birmingham to reregister it ? is their any truth surrounded by this ?. My cousin said he could knock the dent out if i buy it back. Please please help :)
