About buying Travel Insurance... can this be true?

Howdy!

So, I'm a young lad from Australia and I have a fairly unusual obsession with visit "edge of the world" countries.

My question is around Travel Insurance: They say it's a good thought (fair enuff) so I jumped on the net to attain some quotes. And I keep coming up with relatively low prices. I tight-fisted, ~$100 doesn't seem like it will hurt my wallet at adjectives! Say, for instance, I had to be evacuated to the nearest hospital via emergency helicopter. Naturally, this would cost well into the $100Ks compass -- and this would be fully covered for only $100??

So what I want to know is whether these websites that offer cheap and comprehensive Travel Insurance are indeed reliable?

I would especially close to other members here, who have ever purchased Travel Insurance, to share some first-hand insight in the order of this.

Of course, I wouldn't mind dishing out a few hundred bucks more for Travel Insurance, but I can't stop considering that perhaps it is too good to be true! I thought it would cost surrounded by the thousands, frankly...

Cheers. =)

There's a lot of fine print, so be very wise about what's covered. And you want to purchase from a reputable company.

And insurance is priced according to risk; the chances of your need a medical evacuation are pretty low (although the price of the insurance depends on the cost of the trip and the age of the traveler).

Look at it this way: in the US, coupé liability insurance is about $500 per year, but will cover you for up to $300,000. They've assessed what the risk is of a person need it, and priced it accordingly.

Insurance quotes are typically based on the assessment of risks. In your suitcase, you are probably getting lower quotes due to your age and also the duration of travel.

The policies would cover risk like emergency evacuation but the fine print may also preclude certain conditions... If you own the time and patience, make sure you read thru it formerly spending the $100...

There again, the $100 is money well spent if you DO have a TRUE emergency
