Auto Insurance Question?
Im 17 years old and I was wondering if could drive my dad's sports car. My dad's car is insured, but I am not on the policy. What would happen if I would drive his vehicle and I would get pulled over?Would i get a ticket for driving uninsured?Or am I OK becuase the sports car is insured and Im OK as long as I dont get into an accident?
Answers:
Your dad is responsible for putting you on. Insurance go with the car, not the individual -- no ticket for "not being insured". If you get into an calamity, the insurance will cover it, but they'll make your dad either put you on the policy or engender you an excluded driver. All drivers in the household are supposed to be listed on the policy Source(s): Licensed agent
Best bet...never drive a car that you are not insured for. Just don't do it. You will save yourself a huge headache. Forget give or take a few getting pulled over, what if you got into an accident? If the crash didn't wipe out you your dad sure would.
It depends on what his policy say, some cover your vehicle no matter who drives it. As far as driving uninsured only the vehicle have to be insured. But you should already have insurance because the DMV want issue you a Dl without insurance on some motor.
Yes you can drive that motor although the car was insured but even so you are not listed on the insurance policy of your father. Youre making a big trouble if you will drive it and accidents can possinbly develop and we cant avoid that. Try to convinced your father to include you on his policy so that you everything will be in place for driving his car. Yikes... and how do you know you wont get in an coincidence... let me guess "your a good driver"
Let me ask you this: What if your driving your dad's sports car.. and someone runs a red light and rolls his car over?
The other driver ends up one uninsured and you call in the claim to your dads insurance. They deny the claim because you live contained by the house and arent on the policy and were driving.
Now you not only enjoy no car.. but have thousands contained by medical bills that your family cant cover.
How about you a moment ago add your name to the policy.. your will be doing a outstandingly risky thing driving without that.
If you got pulled over you probably wouldn't acquire a ticket because the officer is most likely not going to check who's on the policy. He'll just look at the proof of insurance and receive sure it matches the vehicle. But if you were to get hold of into an accident the insurance company probably won't cover anything because you're not named on the policy. You should enjoy your dad add you onto the policy if you're going to be driving his car. It will be more expensive but worth it because again if you did win into an accident without one on the insurance it could get very expensive especially if you are sued.
I meditate each driver has to be insured. But I'm not sure. You could other call his or any other insurance company and ask. They would probably be able to give an account you for sure if this is the case or not.
If you are not name as a driver on your Dad's policy and you drive his car, you could get into serious trouble. For starters, if you carry pulled over you'll be ticketed for driving without insurance. In some states they can revoke your license since you're under age 18 simply for driving without insurance. If you did get into an stroke of luck, your Dad's insurance company won't cover any of the costs for injury or damage, so they would come after your Dad for the bills. Good way to attain into your Dad's doghouse. Don't try it. It's not worth it.
