I have an auto insurance lapse and have to turn contained by my plates.?

The NYS DMV is telling me that EVEN if I get insurance very soon I can't register this or any car in my baptize until Feb 2009 when my suspension is over. I've appealed the length of the suspension but to no avail so far. Does anyone know a way I could bring around this?
